So I was excited to learn that Deviant Art had introduced a Deviant Film section of their site to accept Film submissions. Being a film maker, I was excited to get some of my work on this site that's actually good (not cruddy like the so called "pictures" i submit from time to time XD) but was saddened and quite frightened to find the following message concerning film submissions on this site:

"The film gallery is by invitation only to preserve the integrity of artistic filmmaking. deviantART is looking to maintain a certain level of production values in the films that our community of artists can post and appreciate."

No offense to the dA community, but I found this comment to be very hypocritical. dA allows people to post art ranging from cruddy sketches done in MS Paint (like unto my on art XD) all the way up to amazing paintings done in Oil or Photoshop.

Why doesn't this same standard apply for the film side of the Deviant Art community? I mean the guidelines for becoming a "submitting member of the film community" (which you can read here: [link]) requires an application including 1 or 2 films without copyrighted material or music in them. Now, granted, I can accept the "no copyrighted material" bit. That's easy enough to swallow (though still kind of odd coming from a Fan Art site XD) but really? Really? Do they need to be so anal about the films submitted here? I feel very alienated by the hypocrisy.
